Horizontal resolution of ECMWF model will be increased on the 26th January 2010. These meteo fields are used for altimetric corrections. Some impacts are expected.

Horizontal resolution of ECMWF model will be increased on the 26^th January 2010 (at 06:00 UTC). Even if we do not modify resolution of meteo fields used for altimetric corrections for the moment, this change in the origin model will have impacts. No functional impacts are foreseen but scientific evolutions might be encountered on parameters depending on meteo data (dry and wet tropospheric correction, inverse barometer, dynamic atmospheric correction, wind, etc). On the test data provided by ECMWF, we observe today the following evolutions: mean values of parameters remain unchanged, only high frequency phenomena are different. Obviously, a wider study is necessary to estimate real impact on products. We are working with ECMWF teams in order to precisely quantify the model evolution impacts.
