Information about mono and multi-mission processing

Transforming raw data into an easily usable form involves a great deal of data processing.

From raw measurement to final user friendly product, several steps performed by expert teams are needed.

Specific processing (dedicated algorithms or adapted corrections) improves the conventional satellite radar altimetry products leading to more accurate data near the coasts and inland waters.

  • Processing steps and data levels

From raw telemetry to multisatellite gridded products, see the corresponding data levels.

  • Ssalto : mono-mission processing

Ssalto encompasses the resources to control onboard Doris and Poseidon instruments, to obtain precision orbits (POD), to process altimeter and radiometer data (CMA).

  • Ssalto/Duacs multimission altimeter products

Duacs is the Ssalto multimission altimeter data processing system. It provides a consistent and homogeneous catalogue of high-resolution products for varied applications, both for near real time applications and offline studies.

  • Specific processing

For open ocean, the treatment of the signal and the corrections to be applied are well known and the height measurements of the surface are very precise. Near coasts and for inland waters, the precision decreases, mainly due to models and corrections not well adapted and also due to echo signals which are modified by the presence of land. However measurements are present and contain useful information. To get closer to the coasts or over continental water bodies with a better coverage and data with good quality, waveform perturbations have to be analysed, retrackers have to be specialized, threshold have to be modified, correction have to be adapted.
