Mesoscale processes

Mesoscale processes include ocean eddies or isolated vortices, meandering currents or fronts, squirts and filaments. The mesoscale variability generally refers to ocean signals with space scales of 50-500 km and time scales of 10-100 days. Here we present an overview of research activities at the CTOH which help improve our understanding of mesoscale processes in the ocean. To this end, CTOH develops specific altimetric mesoscale products and techniques, and provide a brief description of their applications.
