New Mean Dynamic Topography and change in data policy

Category: Website updates

A new version of the Combined Mean Dynamic Topography is delivered to users. The access to this new MDT_CNES-CLS-13 is subject to a new data policy as stated in the new licence agreement.

A new version of the Combined Mean Dynamic Topography  funded by Cnes and called MDT_CNES-CLS-13 is delivered on the authenticated <link ftp: auxiliary external-link-new-window>ftp server.
The new MDT CNES-CLS13 is the mean over the 1993-2012 period of the sea surface height above geoid (means that geophysical effects are not included). Its computation is based on 2 years of GOCE data, 7 years of GRACE data, and 20 years of altimetry and in-situ data (hydrologic and drifters data). The methodology and main improvements compared to the previous MDT_CNES-CLS-09 are detailed on the <link internal-link>dedicated product sheet.
Note that the Ssalto/Duacs (M)SLA products are now computed relative to 1993-2012 period since April 2014 (Duacs 2014 v15.0 version). Thus it is mandatory to be consistent and used (M)SLA and MDT referenced to the same time period. See further information on the <link internal-link>change of the altimeter reference period.
The access to this new MDT_CNES-CLS-13 is subject to  a new data policy as stated in the <media 14286 - - "TEXT, License Aviso, License_Aviso.pdf, 68 KB">new licence agreement</media>. The MDT_CNES-CLS-13, as other auxiliary products, is not freely available for every uses as older product was, it is available for non-commercial purposes only.
