First maneuver for Jason-1 orbit change
Category: News of the other missions, Operational news
The beginning of Jason-1 orbit change have now started. The Poseidon-2 altimeter is in wait mode. At this time, the first maneuver is successful. Jason-1 in the next fifteen days will be moved to a new optimized position in the interleaved orbit leaving the Jason-1 / Jason-2 tandem current phase. Initially at 3° from Jason-2, the target position is 162°, with a time lag of approximately 5 days. Five successive maneuvers are planned until the Monday 9 February 2009. In that way, Jason-1 will never cross Jason-2, then no impact on Jason-2 mission is expected at any times.
