Jason-1: 11 years in orbit!

Category: News of the other missions

On December 2012, Jason-1 satellite celebrates 11 years of observations.

On December 7, 2001, Jason-1 was launched into orbit by Cnes and Nasa. Jason opened a new pathway for radar altimetry, and it has helped to build up a 20-year time series of continuous sea-surface measurements. The 2012 year was a new era for Jason-1: Jason-1 was in Safe Hold Mode after having encountered an anomaly in February-March. The Jason-1 Project begun a series of maneuvers to reduce the orbit on a geodetic, drifting orbit. Since this date, he follows its mission and contributes to merged altimetry observations with Jason-2 and Cryosat-2.
